My Story:
Working in health care? The doctors I work for use me as a resource for their patients who also have diabetes. If they ever have any questions or need help with their devices, they have me talk with the patients. This disease has made me a very strong person and a better nurse. I’m able to connect with patients on a level that a lot of others can’t. It helps patients feel more at ease.

My cousin Haley. She was diagnosed when she was 2. She nearly died but has been living with it for 24 years now.
What is your biggest challenge with diabetes?
Not being able to be in control 100% of the time and to not let myself feel defeated. There are so many different things that affect your blood sugar and sometimes it’s ok to just relax and be patient.
What have you learned from your experiences with diabetes?
Nothing is perfect and everyone has bad days. Diabetes sometimes has a mind of its own. You can do the same things and eat the same meals everyday and one day everything will be great while the next could be a roller coaster. I have learned to be patient.
