My Story:

I have been married to a US Army member for 10 years now. It’s been a struggle keeping my A1C in check with 1,000 miles in travel alone from  my home state to an army base every 3 months. It takes a lot of organizing and pre-planning because of different doctors on post vs the specialist I’ve had to see off post in different states. It’s always hard to get the new doctor on the same page as the old one in terms of dosing and script refills. It’s so very frustrating. I’m always given higher doses and have to suffer through lows for a week at a time to prove they are over doing it.

My Health Details
Type of Diabetes:Type 1
Low blood sugar instances per week:6+ Instances
Daily number of times checking blood sugar:4-6 times/day
Managing Diabetes with:Insulin Shots
What age were you diagnosed with diabetes?0-5
How long does it typically take you to come up when you are low?Under 1 hour
Do you have a diabetic hero that you look up to? If so, who and why?

I don’t but I would say all the type 1’s I’ve met through social media, I’ve been able to vent to and learn from or teach in chat groups. We are all each other’s heros.

What is your biggest challenge with diabetes?

Depression is a challenge, complex PTSD hits some days and it’s hard to even test my sugar level or eat.

What have you learned from your experiences with diabetes?

I have learned that I am stronger than I have ever considered myself, that I have to cherish every moment God gives me to enjoy with friends and family and not take things so seriously and just live one day at a time.
