My Story:
Husband is diabetic. I was diabetic until I had stomach-bipass surgery for weight loss and insulin control – which took care of my diabetes for the most part. However, every so often I feel my sugar levels drop – for no reason … If I am not home, I take a gel immediately because I can feel that I may pass out – after consuming a gel, I sit down for a moment or two until I am feeling better. I carry Transcend Glucose Gels with me everywhere – there are packets in my car, in my carrying case, etc. As stated above, I have often shared a gel when I could tell a person may be having difficulty – after asking them if they were diabetic or had low sugar issues (which I have had since I was a child).
My Health Details
Type of Diabetes:Type 2
Low blood sugar instances per week:1-3 Instances
Daily number of times checking blood sugar:1-3 times/day
Managing Diabetes with:diet and transcend glucose when necessary
What age were you diagnosed with diabetes?16+
How long does it typically take you to come up when you are low?with transcend – usually under 15 minutes
How has Transcend helped treat your low blood sugars?
Obviously this link is a new one to me as I was always able to get Transcend from a gentleman in the Tampa, Florida area – I would purchase 20 packs at a time and I often will give one away if I observed someone having a problem and questioning them if they were okay. I have given it to people who I have observed in a grocery or other store line … who you could tell were having a difficult time — after asking if they were possibly diabetic, I would give them a gel and tell them to take it to their doctor for further information – and do independent research. Every person that I have spoken after a episode who took your gel said that they felt better almost immediately!
What is your biggest challenge with diabetes?
Before my surgery it was keeping my sugar levels even – after my surgery it is more of keeping my glucose levels at bay. I may take a gel pack once every 10 or so days (depending on where I am and what I may be consuming) – Husband probably takes one at least once a week. The biggest challenge is keeping a good supply and being able to afford it! Being on disability – $10.00 may mean eating for 3 days or passing out.
What have you learned from your experiences with diabetes?
I carry at least one gel pack everywhere I go! If I have a new supply, I carry two packs because I often will share one. Being able to afford proper care and treatment has been extremely challenging! For me, it does not really matter what I consume or when during the day I consume something – but I sure know when I am getting ready to pass out! Transcend Glucose Gels help!
