Transcend Warrior – Patrice Ligon

August 19, 2019

My Story:

I love two sports passionately, soccer and cycling. I follow both fanatically. I tend toward watching the Premiere League and my favorite team is Liverpool. Of course, watching the US Women’s team win was a thrill. Now, I’m up to my eyeballs in the Tour de France. I started cycling in 1987 on a second hand Trek road bike that was way too big for me (58cm and I’m 5/7″). We moved to California right across from the American River Bike Trail in Sacramento, CA. I loved it there. I loved biking from Sacramento to Davis and back, a hefty 30-mile round trip that I had to work up to. I did it by going 2 miles first, then 5, then adding one mile each day until I made it down there and back. I rode mostly alone, since there weren’t any women’s groups, and virtually no equipment was built with women in mind when I became serious about cycling. Now, all these years later, I still love the sport, but my health doesn’t let me indulge outdoors. I have to ride my ancient TrakStand. I have a Bachelor’s degree in musicology and a Master’s degree in Worship Studies. I work as a cashier and appliance sales person at Home Depot because they are very nice about accommodating my need to check my blood sugar. I am subject to sudden, extreme lows. My job is a part time job, however, with no benefits, so on my low salary I can’t afford a pump. I’m lucky to be able to buy insulin and I only use Novolin R. I use Novolin R and support Novo Nordisk and their commitment to insulin dependent diabetics and sports teams, including Team Novo Nordisk cycling, which only employs insulin dependent diabetics. I was a paralegal for over 20 years before moving to Home Depot. My legal work was in worker’s compensation, contract dispute defense and criminal defense. I guess I like the underdogs!

How has Transcend helped treat your low blood sugars?

The beauty of using the gels is that they are easy to swallow and easy to open, so even when my motor skills are suffering due to low blood sugar, I am able to use Transcend.
