My Story:
My name is Tabitha Wiley and I was diagnosed when I was thirteen years old. I was at the YMCA swimming everyday, I was losing weight but didn’t think anything of it. My mom picked me up one day because my stomach hurtled so badly that she brought me to the hospital. I felt drained. When my blood sugar was taken at the hospital it was 1340 and the doctor looked at me. After they did testing, I was put in the ICU for a whole week. I was in dka the whole time without realizing that’s why I was so drained. I began to feel better after treating my blood sugar with insulin. The heartbreak for me was that I wasn’t normal anymore and I couldn’t eat the food I liked, like candy.
