New Year, New You, Right?

January 19, 2021

Simple tips to make 2021 your best year yet!

New year, new you, right? 2020 was definitely one for the books. Let’s kick off 2021 being our best selves and get into a healthy routine.

Do you plan on taking charge of your health, both physical and mental this year? According to the CDC, patients with underlying conditions, such as diabetes are more at risk. COVID-19 is still a very real issue and we’ve got some tips for you to stay healthy and sane while staying at home.

Wake up and Walk Exercise does not have to be strenuous or stressful. It is recommended to get up and be active for at least 30 minutes a day. It could be as simple as getting outside, breathing in some fresh air and going on a walk. Make it a routine, start your day with a 30 minute walk, bike ride or even some stretches. Committing to your exercise routine in the morning will have you energized throughout the day and you will have it done before your day’s responsibilities.

Save Money, Stay Safe, and Eat at Home Depending on where you are located, you may not have the opportunity to dine at  restaurants due to COVID-19 restrictions but no worries, eating at home is healthier, less expensive and safer. When you prepare your own meals, you control what is going into your food. Forbes found that it is five times as expensive to order delivery from a restaurant and three times more expensive to use a meal kit as opposed to cooking from scratch. Not only are you saving money but you are controlling your portion size and cooking is also known to be good for your mental health. Cooking can teach you patience, mindfulness, and is also a great creative outlet.

Make a Plan Hold yourself accountable and plan out your week. Block out your 30 minutes of movement everyday and make a shopping list to get all of your ingredients for your meal prep for that week. Eventually this routine will become a habit.

Sleep More Surprisingly, your sleep schedule can affect your weight. It has been proven that poor sleep can increase your appetite, decrease your resting metabolism and cause cells to become insulin resistant. Some tips to get a better nights sleep include, limiting your caffeine intake late in the day, limiting your screen time and blue light exposure, sleeping and waking at consistent times, and exercising.
