Transcend Warrior – Gia Wunderlich

April 22, 2020

My Story:

I have a minimum of an hour and a half commute to my office. I keep Transcend with me at all times, and it has saved me during my long commute. The moment my continuous glucose monitor alerts me to a low trending number, I pull to the side and reach for my Transcend. 1-2 packets in about half an hour usually gets me back on the road safe and with peace of mind.

My Health Details

Type of Diabetes:Type 1

Low blood sugar instances per week:4-5 Instances

Daily number of times checking blood sugar:7+ times/day

Managing Diabetes with:Insulin Pump

What age were you diagnosed with diabetes?16+

How long does it typically take you to come up when you are low?Under 1 hour

How has Transcend helped treat your low blood sugars?

I keep a 3-pack of strawberry Transcend gels in my car (I have a long commute to the office), my purse, in my desk drawer and work bag at all times. Transcend is convenient to carry and it tastes good. It brings my glucose up quicker than glucose tablets which have an awful chalky texture.

Do you have a diabetic hero that you look up to? If so, who and why?

Dr. Frederick Banting who was responsible for developing insulin, all the folks at Dexcom for my CGM, the folks at Insulin who produced my insulin pump (Omnipod) and all of you at Transcend Foods who have provided me with an excellent product to rely on for lows.

What is your biggest challenge with diabetes?

Correctly entering carb counts for correct bolus amounts.

What have you learned from your experiences with diabetes?

Diabetes seems to be the only disease where patients like me are left to make big, risky treatment decisions. Giving yourself the wrong amount of insulin can have a lasting effect, and sometimes even with proper dosing glucose numbers are inexplicably out of range. Thanks to Transcend for providing us with a great “emergency” product, giving us peace of mind.
