My Story:
Working as a preschool teacher, I had to gain quick control of my diabetes. Being responsible for these small children and babies, I can’t risk not being able to care for them for even one moment. It was a shock to be misdiagnosed as a type 2 diabetic for 6.5 years and then find out I had type 1 all along, after finding out while in the ICU with DKA. I also live on a ranch and care for my large animals, so I have a lot of people depending on me to stay healthy!!!

All diabetics are my heroes, it takes someone special to manage this disease and make it look easy!
What is your biggest challenge with diabetes?
My biggest challenge is accepting that I need help sometimes. It is hard to explain to others the extreme fatigue that comes from low and high sugars and sometimes for no reason at all.
What have you learned from your experiences with diabetes?
I have learned that I am capable of so much more than I ever thought. I have learned the importance of health and not to take anything or anyone for granted.
