Transcend Warrior – Samantha K

My Story:

I was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes 3 years ago, a month after my 34th birthday. The doctor didn’t give me much information. I was told to inject using a sliding scale and needles, etc. For the first 9 months after diagnosis, I didn’t have insurance – I managed with shots and got my insulin from the county clinic…which was always a time consuming process. Once I got insurance, I immediately went to an endocrinologist and ordered Omnipod and (though I didn’t want one at the time) Dexcom. I actually started using both the same day and can’t imagine ever going back to managing without them!  I love decorating and posting my pods on Instagram – if I have to wear them they might as well look cute! I also found the DOC right after diagnosis and I have learned far more from social media than I ever have at my Doctor’s office. I have a network of diabuddies, information on the latest technology, and people to chat with who know and understand what I am going through.
